The short answer

Choose Systeme.io if you want to collect a lead, run a funnel, send follow-up email, and sell from one account. Its Free plan currently allows up to 2,000 contacts and unlimited email sends, although automation and campaign counts have limits.

Choose MailerLite if email is central to your workflow. Its current Free plan supports 250 active subscribers, 2,500 emails per month and up to three automations. It also includes landing-page and website features, so describing it as email only would be inaccurate.

Check Systeme.io’s current plan table and MailerLite’s June 2026 update before signing up. Older comparisons may still show MailerLite’s previous 500-subscriber and 12,000-email free limits.

Scenario 1: A newsletter with fewer than 250 subscribers

For a small newsletter, the Systeme.io vs MailerLite decision depends on your editing workflow. MailerLite is built around campaigns, signup forms and list building. Systeme.io places email inside a broader selling platform. If you do not plan to use funnels or courses, extra features alone are not a reason to switch.

Try making a signup form and welcome email in each candidate. Evaluate the editor, mobile view and the time required. We have tested different parts of these platforms. Our October 6, 2026 MailerLite signup test verified one received double opt-in email and the contact’s change from Unconfirmed to Active in the intended group. The account still had a premium trial running, so this does not establish that every visible feature remains available on permanent Free. We did not test a welcome sequence, PDF delivery or unsubscribe. Broader feature and plan comparisons rely on official documentation.

Scenario 2: Your list grows beyond 250 subscribers

MailerLite says sending and automations on its Free plan are paused when the account exceeds 250 active subscribers, until you upgrade or reduce the count. Its 2,500-email allowance also matters: a weekly email to 200 subscribers uses around 800 sends in four weeks, before welcome messages. That is arithmetic, not a usage forecast.

Systeme.io’s Free plan supports up to 2,000 contacts and unlimited sending. Yet its one-campaign, one-rule and one-workflow limits may constrain a business with several offers. See our Free-plan limitations guide for those trade-offs.

Scenario 3: You want to sell through a funnel

Systeme.io lets you bring an opt-in page, thank-you page, email, checkout and course into one account. In our funnel-builder review, we built a test opt-in funnel. Our email review covers campaign and sender setup; our automation review examines rules and workflows.

MailerLite also offers landing pages, websites and digital products. Map your actual form, payment, delivery and follow-up steps before deciding that you need another platform.

Systeme.io vs MailerLite: Paid Plans and Upgrade Costs

As checked September 24, 2026, Systeme.io’s public pricing lists Startup at $17/month, Webinar at $47/month and Unlimited at $97/month. MailerLite’s current paid plans include Comfort and Power. Its price depends on list size and send volume, and Power is listed as starting at $25/month. Select the same audience size and billing period in both official plan tables before comparing totals.

How to decide in 15 minutes

  1. Write down your next 90-day workflow: newsletter, lead magnet, product or course.
  2. Estimate active subscribers and monthly sends.
  3. List the automations you need; check limits before investing in a setup.
  4. Choose the form and welcome-email path you will test next. Allow extra time to verify receipt, unsubscribe and, for sales, checkout and delivery.
  5. Recheck current pricing and consider the work of migrating later.

Verdict: For a solo business building a basic selling funnel, I would start by testing Systeme.io Free. For a creator whose main product is a newsletter, I would test MailerLite too and choose based on the editing and audience workflow. Our MailerLite evidence currently covers signup and double opt-in confirmation only; it does not establish newsletter usability, a complete welcome sequence or comparative deliverability.
